Quotes With Timeless Lessons

There’s nothing quite like reading a sentence that has packed an idea into a perfect string of words.

You know, those quotes where it’s as though the author peaked inside your mind and wrote the exact idea you’ve been thinking about. Either that or they’ve given you the next piece of the puzzle to improve your thinking.

In finding such sentences, I file them in my list of quotes which acts as a collection of mental models I wish to embody. This collection is something I review regularly, as each quote helps me make better decisions and act more like the person I aim to become.

Considering my collection is ever growing, I’ve chosen to share four specific quotes which I always come back to; as their wisdom transcends time and continually helps me.

Hopefully, in reading these quotes you will take meaning from them as I have. Also, that they will change your life as much as they have mine. So, without further ado, here are four simple quotes with timeless lessons …

Take care of your body; it’s the only place you have to live. — Jim Rohn

Every day we rely on our bodies to help us navigate the world, and in highlighting the importance of taking care of them, Jim Rohn acknowledges our bodies as magnificent vehicles which require and deserve the utmost care.

While one’s health is particularly individual, it’s our duty to nurture and prioritise our bodies to help them perform as best they can. The fact is, we only get one body and we should act accordingly by treating it as the magnificent temple that it is.

The best investment you can make is an investment in yourself. The more you learn, the more you earn. — Warren Buffett

Through sharing this pearl of wisdom, Warren highlights the importance of being an avid learner, alongside the benefits it brings — as investing in yourself always provides a positive return. Because, while investing in yourself will provide positive financial gains, it will also see you evolve as an individual.

Simply put, the knowledge you accumulate will always be something you have. It will be a collection of information you can continuously add to, a collection that will help you improve while also helping you make better decisions.

Life is not a problem to be solved but an experience to be had. — Alan Watts

In this short sentence, Watts explains the idea that life is what we make of it. He inherently acknowledges the normality of experiencing negative emotions and contrasting experiences. However, he encourages us to use these as stepping stones to improve as individuals.

By implementing this idea I’ve since realised the importance of aiming to remain neutral in contrasting times, while also understanding the impact of my perspective and how it shapes my beliefs and outcomes. Meaning, regardless of what happens to me, whether positive or negative, how I respond to each situation is my responsibility — and how I use those situations to adapt and grow is ultimately my choice.

If you do not conquer self, you will be conquered by self. — Napoleon Hill

Two of the greatest lessons we can learn are that we are the sole person responsible for our results and that the main person who helps or hinders our growth is the person we see in the mirror — both of which are key lessons outlined in Napolean Hill’s timeless classic Think and Grow Rich.

Throughout the book, Napoleon regularly touches upon the importance of self-responsibility as he shares how one can see both their greatest enemy and biggest fan by looking in the mirror. In both of these quotes, Napoleon highlights the importance of getting out of your own way to allow yourself to reach your full potential.

Simply put, to become our best selves, we must identify our limiting beliefs and habits to replace them with positive self-talk and actions that will help us flourish and evolve.

While at first glance these quotes may not seem like much, within their short passages each conveys timeless wisdom which can drastically improve your life. With a few short words, each quote conveys an idea that can help you better navigate life, make improved decisions and move closer towards the person you wish to become.

In sharing these quotes, I hope you find meaning in them as I have.

Also, that you apply them to your life to reap the benefits of their timeless wisdom.
